Madrid Platform for Peace in the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict supports completely the peace initiative started by the American former-president Jimmy Carter and Carter Foundation in the important efforts made in the last political tour through Middle East seeking a fair solution.
Why do we support him?
Because Carter and Carter Foundation are a solvency guarantee in the fight for peace in many international conflicts and they represent the new power that must be exerted by the Civil Society.
Because there are a lot of organizations and associations in the world working for this conflict solution; because politicians must understand that they have failed, therefore they must give place to the representatives of Civil Society who should play an important role to find peace solutions.
As Civil Society we refer to: both parts in conflict, external agents like Carter Foundation, pacifist NGO´s, intellectual, professors and experts. They should not be rejected and silenced arbitrary, because they can contribute with the necessary clues to end both peoples suffering.
Carter dignifies and honours all those organizations and nations because they think that a place for hope exists. Such place is systematically denied due to politicians’ incompetence, the international and economical interests, because they only perpetuate division, death and destruction.
Carter must be supported by the highest world institutions: UN, EU and especially, we want to hear the voice of the International Mass Media supporting him unanimously.
The EU must get firmly involved in the Palestine-Israel conflict, and stop following Washington and Jerusalem in their approaches.
Jimmy Carter defends Hamas incorporation to the negotiations, because denying it is to deny a big part of the Palestinian people, what means to deny its whole reality too.
We have declared in previous opinion chronicles that each part must recognize the other one because if that does not happen, there will not be success possibilities in any peace solution.Israel and Hamas must recognize each other not only as part of the problem but as a part of the solution too, and none of their representatives, neither Hamas and Fatah from Palestine side nor Israel Government by the other, should put any conditions to this fact.
Carter needs to be supported by an international united voice being the sum of all the voices at the same time: institutional, social and mass media; so that, this clamour can be heard by those who have the responsibility to negotiate. Only through, true negotiations it will be possible to avoid more innocent civilians’ useless deaths; and it could be the ending of the instability in the region.
This war situation could be explained in its bases only by an atavistic inbreeding of a people, leaded by biblical myths about its exclusive possession of all Palestine land by one side, and the fundamentalist ideas held by Hamas who seek the only solution in the creation of an Islamic state in Palestine. This non ending war is accompanied by the hypocritical passivity and silence of the International Community which allows that the confrontation can continue leaving death and destruction.
Madrid Platform encourages the Spanish Government and especially the Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Moratinos, to show an involvement and to hold a strong position as he did before in this Conflict. Only an agreement could be reached if all sides in the conflict are included in the negotiations and we call again to Spanish Government to make all its efforts together with the European Union in order to bring an immediate cease fire in the region.
Jimmy Carter is a Peace messenger and he is not alone. Madrid Platform is supporting him and asks every institution who are fighting for peace to join him in this message. Only in this way this message could reach to the national and international authorities and institutions in order to influence in peace solutions initiatives in the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict.
Spanish Government has to play an influential role in the Conflict solution.
